When a festival lasts for a complete week, there’s going to be a lot of photos. Here is yet another batch of photographic proof that Sziget Festival in Budapest is an absolute blast. For more photos of content festies and the Island of Freedom, check out Portion 1 of our Sziget photo gallery.
I knew from photos that Croatia’s Dimensions Festival would be hosted at an eye-popping venue, but experiencing it reside is a revelation. From ancient amphitheaters to parties on the beach to dancing inside a moat, the abandoned fort of Punta Christo is property to EDM heaven.
It could be the twelfth festival of the 100 Nights of Summer season Tour, but it is my initial time hitting up one in Austria. This week, I’m in Sankt Pölten, just outside of Vienna, at the FM4 Frequency Festival. So take down a “fast beer” (that’s what Austrians call a beer bong), and lets take a look at one of the rowdier crowds of the season.
Where Are You This Week: It’s time to ditch the heat and head to the chillier climes of the North. I’m in the United Kingdom for my first ever British festival. I know the Brits can get downright crazy at these shindigs, so I’ve selected a modest boutique party referred to as LeeFest to ease my way into the English festival scene.
Inform Me About The Festival: LeeFest has one of those origin stories that is becoming legend. Ten years ago, Lee Denny started a modest backyard festival although his parents had been away on holidays. In the ten years since that first bash, LeeFest has turn into an award winning boutique festival. If you haven’t heard of the bands on the bill, you will. LeeFest has a talent for selecting tomorrow’s next large British acts. The little attendance combined with a fancy dress theme provides LeeFest its own distinctive style.
Estimated Attendance: two,000/day
Lineup Sampler: Every little thing Every thing, Circa Waves, We Are Scientists, The Huge Moon
What Tends to make This Festival Stand Out: The theme. I was blown away by the particulars of the Neverland festivalscape that LeeFest created for this year. The 3 distinct areas each and every had their personal personality full with fully dressed volunteers dancing on the elaborate sets, participating in mock battles, or posing for photographs with little ones. The artistic touches that filled LeeFest makes me believe that the organizers may even have much more fun developing this festival than I had partying at it.
Who Attends This Festival: This is a regional fest with most of the crowd from the greater London region. The age range is across the board, like families mixing it up with hen/stag parties and fancy dressed festies everywhere.
What Would You Modify: Not much. If I had to complain, the campground sat on the side of the hill. But then once again, I was 50 meters from the entrance of the festival and toilets, so entirely worth it.
The MFW Beer Index: $ six.25 for a pint of craft beer
Payment System: Money.
Household Friendly Aspect: 9 out of 10. Families are very welcome at this festival along with a designated camping region. It is not uncommon to see young children playing nicely into the evening hours.
Would You Return: If you’re tired of the mega-festival scene, LeeFest is the antidote. Every person in my camping location partied as challenging as any other festival I’ve been also this year, but the atmosphere and small size provides it a extremely chill vibe. I’m already functioning on my costume for next year.
Specifics, Information, Specifics
Where is it and How Tough is to Get There: LeeFest takes spot on a farm about an hour south of London. There’s no shortage of trains that will take you directly from Victoria Station to 1 of two shuttle drops. The closest airport is Gatwick, which took me about forty minutes by train to the nearest shuttle location. For these who want to drive, there’s ample parking that is also extremely close to the campsites.
Where Do I Sleep: You could commute from London every single day, but I definitely recommend picking up a tent along with a few supplies and camping out for the weekend.
Acquiring To and From the Festival: There were two shuttle bus pickups at the Edenbridge Town and Tonbridge train stations. Departures happened each and every thirty minutes or so until about midnight.
Consuming and Drinking: It’s an independent festival, so no shitty beer sponsors. LeeFest provided a welcome choice of craft beers and mixed drinks. There have been about a dozen food trucks at the festival featuring pulled pork meals, grilled cheese sandwiches, ice cream, and Mexican meals.
Tell Me About the Festival: Pohoda (which indicates “chill”) is a single of Slovakia’s largest and oldest music festivals. Surrounded by gentle rolling mountains, the grassy airfield venue signifies plenty of space for dancing, relaxing, and enjoying the festival.
2016 Artist Sampler: The Prodigy, PJ Harvey, The Savages, Sigur Ros, Gogol Bordello, Parov Stelar
Estimated Size: 30,000
The MFW Beer Index: $ 1.50 for 1/2 liter. Score!
What Makes This Festival Stand Out: The vibe. I do not choose favorites, but following attending 50 festivals in 20 nations, this 1 that felt like home. Accurate to its name, the absolute chillness of Pohoda and the variety of music tends to make this a festival I would advise to any person.
Who Attends This Festival: Neglect hostel backpacking and bus tours. The greatest way to expertise the folks of a nation is to attend a festival like this one where the mainly Slovakian crowd couldn’t have be more friendly to me.
What’s the Venue Like: The expansive airfield means there’s room to spread out and lots of soft grass everywhere. There’s two big camping locations on each finish and the interior is your normal festival set-up with three open-air stages and two large tent stages.
What What You Alter: I would ban foreign media from covering Pohoda so that the Westerners in no way uncover this small gem.
Would You Go Back: Absolutely. Already looking for tickets.
The Green Scene: Reusable cups! I’ve noticed them earlier this season at smaller sized festivals and wondered if this game changer could scale up. Pohoda proved to me that each and every festival need to have implemented this currently. The fields remained close to litter free of charge all weekend.
Payment Method: Straight cash. I couldn’t be happier.
Family members-Friendly Issue: 10 out of ten. Pohoda delivered a master course in how you do loved ones festivaling with their youngsters-only activity location and stage. The a lot more jubilant festies remained respectful to households and there’s a wealth of spacious spots to get pleasure from the music. Would adore to see a lot more festivals in the US follow this lead and introduce far more households to the festival world.
Details, Specifics, Information
Exactly where Is it and How Challenging is it to Get There: Pohoda is outdoors the city of Trencin — about 60km north of Bratislava. Trains from Vienna, Prague, and Bratislava seemed to be the easiest alternative obtaining to the festival.
Exactly where Do I Sleep: Camping.
Eating and Drinking: I’m nevertheless dreaming about the meals vendors at Pohoda. There’s national picks like potato pancakes, chicken noodle soup, and fried cheese along with vegetarian choices. I ate at the stalls all weekend. Beer tents rule the drinking even though if you search it out, there’s a Czech sweet wine that tasted delicious.
Acquiring To and From the Festival: There’s a shuttle bus from the central train station that leaves every single 20 minutes or so and fees under $ 1. There’s also parking if you bring a car.

Flower crowns all about
Two festivals in a row have featured these flower crown creation stations. I’m calling it a trend of the season due to the fact I’m a self-declared festival professional and can make bold statements like this.
