Happy Friday + Just for Enjoyable

Sugared Cranberries

This Christmas I’ve been receiving lots of joy from undertaking projects just for fun, and not in fact to share on the blog. I know, it seems a small backwards due to the fact that is what I’m right here to do correct!? But often it’s just truly fulfilling to make or bake or decorate something for the pure joy of it and not have to quit in the middle to document each and every moment.

There have been these lovely sugared cranberries (inspired by this recipe), which Henry and I have been happily chomping on all week. And there was one particular evening after the children had been in bed exactly where I popped a bottle of sparkling rosé and got tipsy while decorating my quite personal gingerbread house. For the record, you can actually see where I began my second glass of bubbles, due to the fact the rows of candy shingles on the roof get all crooked. Ha! I’ll share it on Instagram soon. Anyway, here’s wishing you a beautiful weekend filled of issues you want to to just for the joy of it. Merry merry! xoxo

Pleased Friday + Feeling Festive

White Christmas tree with pink ornaments

As of this week I officially have a two year old and a two month old! I also have my Christmas tree up and all of my purchasing accomplished so I fundamentally feel like superwoman. On the other hand, I’ve been wearing the same jeans for five days straight and my hair is in a perpetual state of “high bun” so there’s that. You pick your battles, appropriate?! (Semi-related: I posted on Instagram the other day that I’m super pumped to have a husband who is down with a white tree and pink ornaments. Now that is a true man. Also, if you appear reaaaallllly close at my reflection in the ornaments in that photo, you can see that I had a nursing pillow around my waist when I took the photo. That is glamour, men and women.)

Anyway, just a little Friday check-in to wish you all a happy weekend! Tonight I’m headed to the symphony for a holiday pops concert with my sweet mom, and tomorrow there’s a Christmas parade and tree lighting downtown. All in all a fairly festive weekend, which is exactly how I like it. Leave a comment and let me know what you’re up to for the weekend! xoxo

Content Friday + The Tale of the Hardwood Floors

Hardwood Floors

Let me start off this post by saying: WE’RE Done! The remodel is accomplished! Properly, I’m thinking about it completed. We need to have to touch up some paint, add a couple of baseboards, and paint the home exterior. But the dust and debris and demolition and all of the dudes coming and going from our property every day — that’s all over. I can clean and start off moving things back into our house just in time for Baby Girl to get right here. And that, close friends, is one thing I nearly doubted would ever come about. There have been days when I was quite positive we were going to be remodeling until… forever.

But for your Friday entertainment, let me inform you The Tale of the Hardwood Floors. This tiny story is why we ended up a couple of weeks behind schedule. Component of the remodel was expanding both our living area and dining space, and we wanted to install hardwood to match the rest of the house. The existing wood floors are original from the 1950’s, but we located a business who felt confident that they could match the wood and make the transitions seamless. So they came in, installed, sanded, buffed, lacquered, and on and on. It is a days-lengthy process that then wants to dry for at least a week just before you can put furniture or rugs on it. So it is fairly the disruption, particularly with a toddler on the loose.

The day they were finishing, I noticed some drops of floor varnish on our current wood floor. They had somehow spilled a line of varnish drips across virtually all of our living space and didn’t notice. So I showed them and they attempted to wipe them but they had dried. NOOOOOO! I know, it is a completely first planet issue, but at the end of a 9 month remodel the last issue you want to see is an error that could possibly set you back. Given that the drops were dry, they tried to scrub them off with turpentine. So we had a perfectly great wood floor with spots that were scrubbed dull. Following that we began searching about a lot more — there were footprints in the varnish, waves in the new wood floor exactly where they had sanded poorly, spots that didn’t get an even coat of finish, and spots that were dyed darker than the rest of the floor. It was a mess. And I just about lost it. I mean, 9 months pregnant, a baby due in 4 weeks, and a floor that we had to commence fully over. (Which, in turn, meant that I nonetheless couldn’t get the nursery set up since our living room furnishings was temporarily staying in there.)

So that’s what we did, we started more than. The bossman at the floor organization fortunately recognized that it was a bum job and hired another company in town to come and repair it all. And that is been the quite last issue to take place. They came, sanded it all down to bare wood (A lot more DUST GAHHHH), buffed, varnished, and sanded and buffed and varnished again. Three times in all. Nowadays is the day we can finally put furniture on it, although rugs can not go in for a although. But at least Hank has a spot to run around once more and our residence doesn’t smell like varnish fumes any much more.

And right here we aaaaaare! I’ll ultimately be sitting on our couch in our own living space tonight, instead of camping out in the studio or in Hankie’s space. And even even though now we have our function cut out for us to clean it all up and put away every thing that’s in storage, I’m so looking forward to that component of it all. Hope you guys have had a fantastic week! xoxo

Content Friday + The Wee Small Hours

Sunrise

Do you ever go via a stretch where you just wake up in the middle of the evening with too numerous thoughts? I’m in a single of those. Quite positive mine is a pregnancy point right now, but I’ve been there before when I wasn’t pregnant too. It is like your brain is just so loaded up with stuff it wakes you up to either worry about it or sort it out or anything. It occurred this week and rather of attempting to locate sleep once again I just got up and went to the gym extra early. On the way out of the fitness center I caught the sunrise and geez was it worth it. (Even although the photo I got doesn’t even halfway do it justice.) Something about these wee tiny quiet morning hours is calming for me, and I ended up becoming glad to have been awake so early.

Anything maintaining you up these days? For your sake I hope not, but if it is, I hope you catch the sunrise. xoxo

Pleased Friday + Items I’m Loving

Feet on Carpet

Things are coming collectively, individuals! Each and every day a small anything new takes place and our home looks a bit more finished. I’ll have a complete update for you subsequent week, but for now just take pleasure in this fairly small carpet that we got from Rug Studio to tide you more than. I’ve been rolling around on it all week (partially because it is the only thing in our house that’s not dusty).

Otherwise, I have some exciting hyperlinks and stuff to get you by way of your Friday! I know you’re sitting at your desk counting down the minutes until you can leave, so how’s about you just let me pass some time for you? You are welcome. xoxo

The Olympics have me watching all of these rhythmic gymnastics videos, and this girl is absolutely bonkers.

Everybody’s usually like, “But you utilized to be an actress, you cannot be an introvert!” And I’m like, “Read this.”

We ultimately found a solution to fighting over outlets to plug in our cellphones. We win!

Pre-ordered my copy of Ann Shen’s Poor Girls All through History and I. Can’t. Wait.

Been checking out Weeknight Society and it’s brilliant if you dread creating dinner each and every night. Check it.

We’re receiving closer to a child girl name (lastly) and this list of Twitter’s ugly child names is cracking me up! We truly were considering a couple of names on the list – HA! Can you guess which ones?

Happy Friday + Photo Strips

Family Photo Booth Strips

We did it once more! Friday! These days it feels like a huge accomplishment to get to the weekend. We took these pictures a couple weekends back in a photo booth at the county fair and they’re perhaps some of my favored that I have. Henry was fascinated by the “tiny house” that took your image, and we even got him to sit for his own strip. I love memories like these — type of blurry and messy but completely ideal in their personal way. We were hot and dusty and just so content to be collectively. Even the baby bump produced an look in a couple of frames. I fully admit that my photo strip collection is a little ridiculous, and I’m starting to forget where they every single came from so I’m going back and writing on the backs of the ones I don’t forget. I have some of them in a book that we DIY’d, but that thing is filled to the brim! Anyway, my fondness for photo booths (specially the old college, legit ones) is not dying any time soon so I’ve gotta start labeling those babies.

Anyway! What are you up to this weekend? I have this bizarrely lofty aim to sort by means of all of my digital pictures and start deleting the junk photos that are hiding there. Mind you, I have about 40,000 images in my pc alone, let alone what’s on my phone, sooooooo….. I’ll just do my best. 😉

Sending high fives for making it by way of another awesome week, my lovelies! xoxo

Lovely Indeed

Neil Young + Promise of the Genuine Roskilde 2016 Friday night

Neil Young + Promise of the Real Roskilde 2016 Friday night Photo: Alexia Arrizabalaga

Neil Young + Guarantee of the True gave a triumphant efficiency at Roskilde day 3 last night. Opening with a solo acoustic set that included the classics ‘After The Gold Rush, ‘Heart Of Gold’, and ‘The Needle And The Harm Done’, Young then spent the subsequent two and a half hours blasting by means of a set accented by politically and environmentally conscious songs with his full electric band, who were the most spectacular guitar band of the festival so far.

&#13

Wearing a t-shirt with the logo from his new album reside album Earth, Young’s set – in keeping with the album – portrayed a man nobly stirred by the greatest injustices on the planet. This is a band who really have anything to say. The anti-war sentiment on ‘Western Hero’ shone with devastating realism in the following verse: “And on the shores at Normandy He fought for you/ he fought for me/ Across the land and on the sea/ But now he’s just a memory.”

&#13

Meanwhile, on ‘Mother Earth (Organic Anthem)’ the words: “How lengthy can you give and not obtain/ And feed this world ruled by greed” are a powerful message to be belting out to the tens of thousands of individuals there, and it really is specifically relevant at a festival that’s won an award for its green operations.

&#13

Musically the set was, as already indicated above, a jaw-dropping display of guitar virtuosity. But importantly it wasn’t the Neil Young show. He gave the stage away to Willie Nelson’s son, Lukas, on so a lot of occasions – it was as if he’s showcasing the next generation of guitar greats to the world and providing them his blessing. The extended jam’s for the duration of songs saw Young and Nelson egging each other on to generate the most extraordinary on-stage chemistry. Meanwhile, the rest of the band, are musicians Young seemed to have an immense time playing with, too.

&#13

They only began touring with Young last year when he was touring his album The Monsanto Years but they are up there with the greatest of Young’s backing bands – including Crazy Horse. Their most impresive technical moment was the outro to ‘Seed Justice’ which led into a strong rendition ‘Keep On Rocking In The Totally free World’. Soon after this cut he bowed out with grace as he proudly roared the words Guarantee of the Genuine. Absolutely everyone in the festival was won more than by them and more than the moon to see them return with ‘Love And Only Love’ for an extended encore.

&#13

At most festivals, Neil Young’s set would be the end of the night. But, soon after almost 3 hours of Neil Young, Tame Impala had been merely a five-minute walk away playing to the largest crowd to have gathered at Arena (the second largest stage) all weekend. “We played right here in 2010 but this is next level” stated Kevin Parker as he was humbled by the turnout. It was nearly not possible to get close as the crowed lapped up the blissed out psych pop of cuts like ‘Let It Occur, ‘Feels Like We Only Going Backwards’.

&#13

Elsewhere, new band Vehicle Seat Headrest, led by 23-year-old Will Toledo who made 12 albums on BandCamp ahead of obtaining signed, created a robust case to be hiked up the bill next year. They played to a packed out Pavilion stage at two.15am and there was a sense among absolutely everyone, who eluded the likes of James Blake and M83 to see them, that it was a excellent decision. The Pavement-esque four piece have constructed some impressive songs that are projected with so much vigour thanks to lead guitarist and backing singer Ethan Ives’ power complimenting Toledo’s. Their bassist largely just stands there in a nonchalant cool way while the drummer is self-confident and has a microphone and routinely ups the power of the show encouraging the audience to dance.

&#13

The way their songs construct with the loud quiet dynamic, the sharp lyrics that ranges from playful to sexually frank to sorrowful, typically within the exact same song, make them a single of the most impressive indie bands to have come out of America since Christopher Owens’ Girls.

&#13

James Blake’s set, which went on beyond the finish of Automobile Seat Headrest’s, was an emotional experience. Prior to he played ‘The Wilhelm Scream’ he produced a speech honouring his band for generating his electronic music achievable reside but he could hardly get a word out to commence with due to the hysteria in the crowd. The Tv camera on the large screen honed in on certain audience members faces who looked across to Blake with astonishment and also tears in their eyes in reaction to just how brilliant he had been. There was no limit to the adore.

&#13

Earlier, in the day Colin Stetson and Sarah Neufield produced the most impressive sound for two individuals on stage playing acoustic instruments imaginable. The bass from the baritone sax interacting with former Arcade Fire violinist’s playing was the most goosebump-inducing encounter and a fantastic way to expertise the Gloria stage. The Gloria stage is a single of the only indoor spaces to watch bands in the festival and is blessed with mystical decorations and ambient lighting.

Pleased Friday + Life Life Life

Pregnant holding peonies

I hereby present to you our very first photo from the new studio! Yes, it’s just a white wall. But it’s our white wall. With texture and our preferred white paint and electrical outlets in it and almost everything. The work isn’t really carried out in the studio but — we nonetheless need to have to set up flooring just before we can move our gear in — but we’re so close we can TASTE it. So we snuck in the other day to take some test shots and I’m just so excited to begin working in there. The light is gorgeous and it is so spacious and beautiful.

In other news, I’m starting to get that genuinely charming egg-shaped physique that I get when I’m pregnant, also evident in that tiny photo up there.  Baby is kicking me around all day, which is pretty exciting, and I’ve moved on from becoming annoyed about the nausea to becoming annoyed that I’m beginning to get that pregnant lady waddle in my step. But adequate whining! The kid looks healthier and we’re all content (albeit a bit stressed), so we have zero to complain about.

Okay seriously, enough about me. Ugh! I want to hear about you! Tell me one great factor that happened this week so we can celebrate you! And then go have a rad weekend. xoxo

Happy Friday + Staying on the Move

Monterey Bay

Happy Friday, gang! Don’t you love a short operate week? I’m pondering we need to begin a movement to make every single weekend a 3-day weekend. Just saying.

Last weekend we headed to Monterey for a rapid getaway, and this weekend we’re spending a couple of days at my family’s cabin with friends, which I’m super pumped about! I realized that I hadn’t been out of town at all because February, and it was producing me entirely uncomfortable and itchy to get the heck out of here! I’m a gal who seriously wants to remain on the move, and it had been way also lengthy given that we had an adventure. So we’ve got trips lined up for the subsequent few weekends and I’m seriously pumped.

How about you? Are you a homebody or do you like to roam? I adore to go areas, and then I looooove to come back house. Greatest of all achievable worlds. 🙂 What adventures do you have planned this weekend? xoxo
